Vectrix saved by GP Batteries, new electric scooters in the pipeline

News is that Vectrix, the electric vehicle manufacturer that filed for bankruptcy last year is back with new investors, the original engineers, and some new designs in the not-too-distant future.

China-based GP Batteries put their money in to the Delaware corporation and bought the majority if their assets for an undisclosed amount and the Vectrix team is now “in the process of reorganizing and relaunching the brand back into the space,” according to Chief Operating Officer Jason Kim.

Electric racing gets put on ice

andros-trophee-quantyas.jpgQuantya motorcycles will be racing in this years Trophée Andros, the French national Ice Racing championship, in the French Alps.

Starting next year they will offer a 100% pure electric class for cars. It’s not clear if there will also bee an electric motorcycle class.

The Zero X electric motorcycle gets 40 miles per charge from it’s proprietary patent-pending lithium ion array and charges in 2 hours. The frame is handmade and shot-peened from aircraft grade aluminum. Built from the ground up and boasting 50 ft-lbs of torque, 23 horsepower and a total weight of 151 pounds, it also features six piston brake calipers. The list of newness goes on for quite a bit. The 3rd generation of the Zero X is priced at $7750, with an introductory price of $7450 through December 31, 2008.
